Vitamin C

Vitamin C in its natural form, L-Ascorbic Acid is a powerhouse anti-oxidant which helps combat free-radical damage on the skin. It uses electrons to neutralize free radicals lingering on the surface of the skin. Vitamin C is well-known for its ability to brighten dull skin, prevent dark spots, diminish the appearance of scars, even out skin tone, hydrate skin, and protect it from pollution. It is one of the must-haves for an anti-aging product.

Mineral rich purifying clays

Bentonite clay is well-known for its many uses especially for its detoxing properties and its richness in many minerals therefore its ability to release minerals for the skin to absorb. When bentonite clay is hydrated, it acts like a porous sponge because it’s a swelling clay. Like activated charcoal, it also has a strong negative charge attracting positively charged toxins pulling them through the skin. When bentonite clay absorbs toxins, it releases its minerals for the skin to use. These minerals include silica, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, and potassium to name a few. Therefore, using Bentonite Clay as a masque not only purifies the skin, but also feed the skin with much needed minerals.

Kaolin clay – much like bentonite clay, kaolin clay has excellent detoxing and deep cleansing properties as well as rich in minerals. It is gentle on the skin and suitable even for people with sensitive skin. Kaolin is a popular ingredient in a facial masque for its ability to absorb excess oil from the skin’s surface, lifting dirt, and other impurities from the pores. Kaolin clay is also a very gentle exfoliant without damaging the skin by causing microscopic tears. It is important to use only gentle exfoliants on the face as many exfoliants used in the market can cause microscopic tears on the skin which in turn can cause long term skin damage.

Moroccon lava clay is mined from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and is often used in spas for skin and hair. It is formed by a natural combination of volcanic activity and geothermal changes. Moroccon lava clay is an extraordinary mineral-rich clay that is very rich in silica and magnesium, making it especially good for the skin. Clinical studies found that Morrocon lava clay can increase skin elasticity, even skin tone, reduce blemishes and blackheads, and reduce skin dryness or flakiness. It is also known to help in the treatment of dehydrated, sensitive skin and enlarged pores.

Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth is a naturally occurring mineral rock made from the remains of oceanic algae known as diatoms. Like the other clays, Diatomaceous Earth is very rich in silica (84%) as well as other essential minerals including magnesium, calcium, sodium, iron and other trace minerals that our body needs to stay healthy.

Day to day exposure to the sun, pollutants in the air and other free radicals can lead to collagen break down causing pre-mature aging. Silica helps in the production of both collagen and elastin. Elastin is a highly elastic protein in connective tissue that helps it maintain its shape and “bounce back” after being stretched. This is why Diatomaceous Earth is such an important ingredient in anti-aging masque formulations.

Organic lime peel powder

Lime peel is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and as an added bonus. When dried and powdered, it is an excellent gentle organic exfoliant therefore helps purify the skin and remove dead skin cells.

Ingredients:

Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Peel Powder*

How to use:

Mix 1 part powder and 1 part liquid (water, natural yogurt (sugar-free) or milk kefir) in a non-metal bowl and mix with a non-metal spoon. Adjust amount to create a smooth paste.

Gently massage onto wet face, nose and forehead in a circular motion to exfoliate. Avoid the eye area. Leave for 10 minutes to allow mask to dry or optionally moisten the masque with filtered water to extend vitamin C and mineral absorption time for up to another 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

For best results, follow immediately with Zacoli Organic High Potency Active Botanical Anti-aging Serum and/or Active Botanical Anti-aging Tallow Night Cream.

Use once or twice a week. Note: do not exfoliate your face more than twice a week.
