Dirty little hands
It is never too early to get the little ones’ hands dirty.
Do you know that it is essential that little ones get exposed to dirt? Dirt is full of living microbes, they help build our children’s immunity.
These days we have adopted an overly hygienic lifestyle. We wash our kids hands with antibacterial wash, we wipe their faces with antibacterial wipes, some even shower them with antibacterial body wash, we sanitise everything in the house and we stop letting our kids play in the dirt.
Bad microbes are bad, they can cause our children to be sick. Yes that’s true. But do you know that it is not possible go completely avoid bad microbes? The only way to combat this is to have enough good microbes count and a diverse range so that they can keep the bad ones in check.
By killing ALL microbes, good and bad…. we are taking away our body’s natural defence mechanism. And when one day, our kids are exposed to bad enough microbes to make them very sick, they have no tools to fight the bad microbes with, and often have to resolve to antibiotics. This in turn makes the matter worse over long term, with more good microbes killed in our gut resulting in the downward spiral of further loss of our natural defence mechanism.
This is one of the key reasons why we now have superbugs, where antibiotics can no longer address.
So there you go, by all means clean your kids hands which soap but don’t use antibacterial wash. Let them get dirty in mud. Let them be kids like how we were growing up…
What are your thoughts? Please feel free to comment. What do you do to help your little ones build their immunity?
