Why you should avoid DRINKING and SHOWERING with RAW TAP WATER at all cost… and… What you can do to SAFEGUARD you and your family

Today, I want to dive a bit deeper into the subject of WATER. Safe, clean, no tox water is such an important factor of our health. You can’t expect yourself to be healthy if you load yourself up with chemical laden water day after day, putting strain on your kidney and your liver, and your lung…
Our government tells us our water is safe to drink straight from the tap. They say the chlorine and other chemicals in the water are safe. They say the flouride in the water strengthens your teeth.
Is that true?
Answer is NO. It’s not true at all.
Our tap water is not safe to drink esp over long term.
Chlorine and flouride are the biggest threats. But apart from chlorine and flouride there are many other the chemicals and contaminants in our water such as hormones, lead, aluminium, herbicides, mercury, pharmaceuticals, nitrates, viruses… which are all harmful to us.
In this post I want to dive deeper into chlorine and flouride and why we should avoid drinking and showeing/ bathing with raw tap water at all cost.
🎈Chlorine is a known potent poison. We have been led to believe that the chlorine concentration in water is not harmful to human. Is that true though?
According to a report from the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, the cancer risk for people who drink chlorinated water is up to 93% higher than for those whose water does not contain chlorine.
Chlorine in tap water has been linked to reproductive problem, damage to the heart, lungs, kidneys, nervous system.
Chlorine destroys our gut. It doesn’t just kill bad bacteria, it also kills the good bacteria in our gut, which can severely weaken our immune system and impair our digestion.
Chlorinated water is harmful not just by ingestion but also inhalation and skin absorption.
When you have a hot shower or bath, the water turns into steam. The chlorine (as well as other contaminants) is inhaled causing havoc to our lungs. Your pores are opened and the chlorine (and other contaminants) is absorbed by your skin.
Research presented at the American Chemical Society in 1986 demonstrated that showering leads to greater exposure to toxic chemicals in tap water than drinking the water does.
In a recent article in The American Journal of Public Health reported that up to two third of our harmful exposure to chlorine is through absorption by the skin during showering.
Knowing the above, would you still drink and shower with chlorinated water?
Let’s move on to flouride.
🎈Fluoride is classed as toxic by both inhalation and ingestion. It is a potent poison traditionally used to kill rodents and as a pesticide to kill bugs. The lethal dose for a 70 kg human is estimated at 5–10g.
The Food & Drug Administration in the US requires that all fluoride toothpastes sold in the United States carry the poison warning. Poison control should be called if you swallow a quarter milligram of fluoride from toothpaste. A tube of fluoride toothpaste, including the child-friendly ones, has enough fluoride to kill an average-weighing child under the age of 9.
Fluoride is more toxic than lead and like lead in minute doses, accumulates in and can be damaging to brain/mind development of children, producing abnormal behavior in animals and reducing IQ in humans, especially in conjunction with deficiencies of key nutrients such as calcium, iodine and vitamins. It can also contribute to many disease processes.
Twenty-three studies from four countries indicate that even moderate exposure to fluoride lowers IQ.
The daily dose of fluoride recommended by the American Dental Association results in the same level of fluoride in the blood shown to cause an 8-point drop in IQ.
Over 60 animal studies have been conducted showing that fluoride has adverse impacts on male fertility. In the animal tests, they observed that fluoride can cause decreases in testosterone levels, reduced sperm motility and quantity, and altered sperm morphology.
The CDC reports that dental fluorosis rates have been rising in the last 30-40 years, likely due to the increase in fluoride sources.
In countries with very high levels of calcium fluoride in the water, people can develop a severe form of this condition called crippling skeletal fluorosis, which causes bones to become rigid and brittle.
In 2015, British researchers called for health authorities to reconsider its water fluoridation program after a new study linked fluoride to higher rates of hypothyroidism – low thyroid function that slows the metabolism down and can cause fatigue, weight gain and depression.
The observational study published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health (a specialist journal published by the British Medical Journal group) reported that GP clinics in areas with fluoridated water were nearly twice as likely to report high rates of hypothyroidism compared with clinics in areas without water fluoridation.
To put it simply, you should avoid flouride at all cost, not just in drinking water but also in toothpaste and during dental visits.
I hope this gives you enough information to help you understand that drinking water directly from the tap is a big no no due to all the reasons provided above. And, boiling your water will not solve the problem.
🎈Question is… what can you do about it?
Here are a few options I recommend…
⚡If possible at all, I will invest in a large rainwater tank and divert the rainwater water to your kitchen and shower/ bath, leaving town water for washing and flushing. You will need a good quality water filter to filter out bacteria, parasites and other contaminants.
Rainwater is one of the best water you can have. It’s soft, clean, straight from the sky. Yes, it can be affected by the contaminants in the air as well as the roof and gutter, but a good quality water filter will fix it easily enough.
⚡If using rainwater is not an option and you have to stick with town water, it’s not all lost. All you need is need a high quality water filtration system, not just for your drinking water but also for your shower or bath water.
– If you can afford it, a whole house filtration system plus a counter top filtration system that removes flouride is the best option.
For counter top, I recommend the following;
👉Southern Cross pottery with flouride plus filtration and
👉Berkey flouride reduction water purifier (see comments in previous post from one of the users of this product).
For whole house filtration, any good quality filtration that effectively filters out chlorine and other chemicals and contaminants will do.
Why two filters? The whole house filtration system will effectively filter out chlorine and other contaminants to minimise your exposure during shower/bath. The counter top filtration system will filter out chemicals as well as flouride. The problem is, there just isn’t a whole house filtration system that can effectively filter out flouride. Similarly, there isn’t a undercounter filtration system that effectively filters out flouride. Flouride is very hard to remove and there’s only a small number of products out there that effectively filter out flouride such as the ones I recommended above.
– if you can’t afford a whole house filtration system or if you are on a rental property, I recommend a shower/bath filter you can install on the shower hose or bath spout without a plumber. They cost around $150. And similarly, you will need a benchtop water filtration with flouride removal as discussed above.
With these simple filtration systems in place, you can safeguard yourself from the toxins from the water you use day to day.

Fixing your water is a critical part of your no tox journey.
The bottom line is, our tap water is not as safe as we are led to believe. In fact, it is downright dangerous to be exposed to over a long period of time.
Have a great day!

Tomorrow I will talk about other other drinking water options e.g distilled water, bottled spring water, rainwater etc. The pros and the cons and what you can do to further improve your water.
