How to Make your Own High Potency Immune-Boosting Tincture
I feel really blessed to have learnt so much about ferments and herbs in the last two years from my amazing naturopath and have since experienced first hand the healing from both.
Two years ago, our health hit rock bottom. We were constantly sick, and at one point, I was sick for 6 months with no relief. We didn’t know much about ferments and herbs at the time and didn’t know how to support our weakened immune system to fight diseases. So we just suffered through it all…
Great news is, since then, we have embarked on a journey of searching, learning and living a healthy lifestyle.
Today is a very different story. We have gone from being sick literally ALL THE TIME, to hardly ever get sick and when we do, sickness only usually lasts for a two to three days.
The secrets lie with the healthy food we eat, including loads of yummy ferments, reduce exposure to toxins, as well as knowing how to use herbs to use to support our immune system.
Ferments have high levels of probiotics, digestive enzymes, minerals and vitamins.
Herbs have many medicinal properties such as anti inflammatory, anti bacterial, anti fungal, anti viral, immune boosting, detoxing, the list goes on…
When you put FERMENTS and HERBS together, you have this ULTRA-POTENT IMMUNE BOOSTING SUPERFOOD!!
Fermented herbal tonic is what I will be teaching in one of my upcoming fermentation workshops.
But this is not what it’s about today. Today, I want to show you how you can make your own IMMUNE-BOOSTING TINCTURE, the other important thing you can do now to support you and your family ward off colds and flu.
And this is exactly what I made this morning…
I picked some olive leaves from my olive tree, and some thyme and oregano from the garden. I added crushed garlic, ginger, onion, elderberries and echinacea. Super easy. See recipe below.
Ingredients:
- Vodka (with 38% to 40% alcohol)
- Herbs: Garlic, Ginger, Onion (equal parts)
- Optional extra herbs: Golden seal (really powerful antibacteria and anti viral herb. If using and if in powder form, use no more than 1tsp), Olive leaf, Thyme, Elderberry, Echinacea, Oregano, Cayenne pepper or Lemon peel
- Glass jar: 1 litre jar
Method:
- Chop up the herbs into small pieces.
- Fill the glass jar with the chopped herbs.
- Add optional herbs – 1 to 2 tbsp or to your liking but for golden seal if using, use no more than 1 tsp.
- Add vodka until all ingredients are covered.
- Leave in a dark cool place for 6 weeks, shaking it occasionally.
- When using, strain out the herbs with a clean and dry muslin cloth.
- Keep the tincture in a glass bottle or a glass dropper bottle and away from direct sunlight.
Alternatively, you can leave all the herbs in the jar to continue to infuse and only strain out the amount of tincture you need.
To use:
- Adult: Put about 5 to 10 drops on the tongue when feeling rundown up to 5 times a day.
- Children: Half the quantity for children. Do not use it for infant or consult your health care professional if you intend to do so.
Note: Do not use this for a prolonged period ie more than 5 days at a time, or consult with your health practitioner if you intend to do so. If pregnant, seek professional medical advice.
